My
name is Amy Crook. I lived in Golden Valley MN most of my life. Now I live in Idaho in Rexburg with my husband James Crook. I
don't have a favorite recreation activity, but I do love anything that
has to do with water. For example, lakes, pools, oceans, rain, and water
balloons.
I
don't get to travel a lot, but If I could, I would love to travel to
Wales England, and Southern California. Wales, because it is gorgeous. I
been there once, and loved it. Southern California, because I serve my
mission there. I want to see all the people I meet, and the places I
saw. I also really want to see the ocean again.
Hmm.. for a friend or
family who has a disability.. Oh! I have this friend name Anne. She has
Cerebral Palsy, but is super positive and happy. She loves the
bachelor/bachelorette, and she made her dream happened in being able to
meet those actors. She make videos, in how she is feeling,
encouragement, and other things. I am inspired by her day by day.
This I decided for what I am going to use for my Professional toolbox
e-folio, is an activity or a video clip. I am still making up my mind.
Perhaps I will used both. I love videos because I know for me at least
they inspired me. I want to do an activity because that is action, and
that is a fun way in learning and understanding what others goes
through.'
I remember once, here at BYU-I, I did sit down volleyball. It
represented those who are in wheelchairs. It was fun, but definitely
more tricky than standing. It made me realizes that any activity can be
made for any type of disabilities, that they want to be a part of events
and activities to. The hard thing is that often, they are excluded, not
allowed to play, because of their weakness. They are push to the side,
waiting and watching the fun without being able to be a part of it. It
isn't fair for them. Planning an activity will help me or anyone to come
up with ideas to how to make an activity works for those in
wheelchairs, or others type of disabilities. It teaches people how be
flexible and gives accommodations to others.
This Professor Tool box is made to inform and teachers work better with those with mental illnesses and disabilities. It is also a tool to help those who struggle with disabilities and mental illnesses to be encourage, believe in themselves and move forward.
